ABOUT THE ARTIST
Norio Azuma was born in Kii-Nagashima-cho, Japan, in 1928 and died in New York City in 2004. He studied at Kanazawa Art College in Japan, the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, and the Art Students League of New York.
Azuma became recognized for his modernist paintings and technically sophisticated screenprints, including experimental serigraphs produced directly on canvas. His work is represented in prominent American museum collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
