ABOUT THE ARTIST

Norio Azuma was born in Kii-Nagashima-cho, Japan, in 1928 and died in New York City in 2004. He studied at Kanazawa Art College, the Chouinard Art Institute, and the Art Students League of New York. Azuma became known for his modernist paintings and technically sophisticated screenprints, including works produced directly on canvas. His work is represented in American museum collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
